The design is inspired by a chased bronze plate dating to approximately the 12th–11th centuries BCE. The artifact was discovered in the Sevan Basin and is preserved by the History Museum of Armenia. Some researchers have suggested that Bronze Age inhabitants of the Armenian Highland envisioned the Earth as a rounded body, an interpretation inspired by this symbolic artifact.
